Thoughts on 1 Peter 2:4 by Michael Cotton

1 Peter 2:4 “As you come to him, a livingstone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,”
Sometimes I think we forget just how much Jesus was rejected by men. When we come to Christ we are coming to a man who knows rejection, and understands our rejection and pain. We shouldn’t expect others to embrace Christ simply because we have. Yet, He remains, and always will remain, in the sight of God, chosen and precious. When we experience the rejection of others this does not at all mean that we do not belong to Christ, or that He doesn’t love us. Rather, if we truly let ourselves become wholly His, it is likely that we will alienate ourselves from certain people. In these instances, the Great Accuser Satan will roar at us, bringing to our minds all of our faults and failures and labeling us unloved, accursed, guilty and condemned. But thank God, through the blood of Jesus Christ we are forgiven and cleansed from all unrighteousness! Our testimony has not been given to us by men, but by God. Don’t let the testimony of men outweigh the testimony of God in your life. If you believe in Jesus Christ, then in the sight of God you are chosen and precious. That is the only testimony that matters. That is the testimony that will last forever.

  1. I especially love this: “Our testimony has not been given to us by men, but by God. Don’t let the testimony of men outweigh the testimony of God in your life.”… so true! Thanks for this great reminder
